As promised, in an effort to minimize the decisions we make in a given day AND move us forward towards optimal health and wellness, I am ready to share your first habit!

DRINK. MORE. WATER.

I have a simple routine I started to help kick start my day.

You know that moment when you first get out of bed, after you pee and you are not really awake yet. Maybe you are making your coffee or waking up the kids or letting the dog out? You don’t want to do much of anything but know you need to get going? Ok, here we go….habit stacking number one..

Drink a full glass of water. Right in that moment, in that gray area of awake/asleep. Just do it.

If you feel like you can’t drink water that early…Yes. You. Can. Just drink a small glass of water. Or start out small with a few sips. Remember, we are creating habits. We don’t have to do things perfectly to start building momentum. Shoot for 5 out of 7 days as a goal.

Once we have established this habit for about 30 days, we can kick it up a notch. Fill your water bottle for the day. Set an alarm to drink water throughout the day. Substitute water for sugary drinks like soda/juice/etc. Drink a full glass of water with each meal. The next step habits just related to water are endless!

Remember, to keep things simple though.

Wake up.

Drink a glass of water.

Start your day.

Habit stacking with two things you are already doing- waking up and starting your day (shower, teeth, get dressed, etc.).
