Never too Young: Petra’s Story

A personal note from Coach Sarah…

Petra is one of the most hard working, focused teens I know. She has done personal training with me three times a week for about a year and half and almost never misses a session. She gives 100% effort and listens carefully as I guide her through old and new movements. We have lots of inside jokes and she keeps me laughing through most of our session.
She is open minded and eager to learn. I mean, how many other teens do you know who CrossFit, play the cello and take Japanese? She wins the award for “All Around Best Teen!”

When did you join FitCity?

A year and a half ago I was in the Cayman Islands on vacation with my family when we walked by a Crossfit gym. I watched as they were jumping on big boxes and it looked so fun! I wanted to do this plus, I had to master pull-ups for the President’s physical fitness test at school and thought Sarah was the perfect coach to teach me.

Describe your first WOD.

I can’t remember, I blocked it from my memory. I just remember the fun, and sore muscles.

What are you most proud of accomplishing at this point?

I feel so much stronger and empowered. I feel like I could kick some booty! Plus I am jumping on the big box now! Share a favorite moment. Squid Day! Don’t ask me about handstands.

What advice do you have for a teen just getting started?

Do not give up, even though some days your legs feel like they are going to collapse to the ground, YOU CAN DO IT!

What is your favorite inspirational quote?

“Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” Henry Ford

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I have played the cello since I was five years old and I was selected for the Florida Middle School Honors Orchestra. I am a certified PADI scuba diver that has been to the Great Barrier Reef numerous times.
