There is nothing inherently wrong with a globo gym. Usually there is nice, new equipment; friendly staff; bright, clean restrooms; and a monthly rate that won’t break the budget. If you have the motivation to get into the gym several times a week and follow a program, you can definitely get in shape at any gym. Heck, you can get in shape working out in your living room to DVDs checked out from the local library. I still remember getting into pretty phenomenal shape in the mid-90s working out to an old Jane Fonda video I found in a box of my mom’s old things. But I did it alone and eventually I fell back into bad habits and a sedentary lifestyle.
I’m not here to tell you we’re better. For some people, we may not be. Some people may find exactly what they are looking for with a $10/month gym membership. What I am here to tell you is that we are different. Raise the Bar CrossFit has just 85 members. We’re small, but we are family. When you don’t show up, your friends from your class will ask about you. When your kid gets sick, we worry and we will do anything we can to help. When you need help moving, we’re here for you. We have barbecues together, go on trips together, encourage one another, laugh together, and most of all, we have fun together. If this sounds weird to you, well, it kind of is I guess. It’s something you won’t understand until you experience it. There is something special that comes from spending an hour a day doing hard work together that builds bonds.
When you need that extra push in a workout, you’ll have a group of people and a coach encouraging you through those last reps. For some people, this could be daunting and the last thing they want in a workout. But if you need that motivation and like the idea of a coach working alongside you to make sure you are moving safely and efficiently, CrossFit is your ticket. If you get bored doing the same workout each day or getting on the same machines, we can guarantee that you’ll find something new and challenging each day when you walk through the doors. We’ll program a new workout each day that will push you to your limits. You’ll get to spend an hour of your day on a workout floor that we fondly refer to as a grown-up playground and learn that your body is stronger and more capable than you knew possible.
I like this definition of CrossFit best (from CrossFit.com) “CrossFit is many things. Primarily, it’s a fitness regimen developed by Coach Greg Glassman over several decades. He was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way (increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains). CrossFit itself is defined as that which optimizes fitness (constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity). CrossFit is also the community that spontaneously arises when people do these workouts together. In fact, the communal aspect of CrossFit is a key component of why it’s so effective.”
So if you’re tired of doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, come check us out. You may just love what you find!
