Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started at FitCity?

First, schedule a free 15 minute consultation with a coach to discuss your fitness goals and determine which option is right for you, your timeline, and your budget. Click here to read in more detail. During that appointment, you will select either group classes or personal/one on one training. If you select group classes, you will schedule your On-Ramp, five 30 minute sessions, designed to prepare you for immediate entrance into group classes. If you would prefer more time and personalized programming, you may select personal training/coaching with specialized programming designed to help you get to your goals. Both options, availability, and pricing are discussed in detail in this meeting. You will be ready to begin (or enhance) your fitness journey immediately following this appointment!!

I have to be “in-shape” before I start Crossfit, don’t I?

No! You do not have to be in shape prior to starting!! Crossfit is infinitely scaleable for anybody, at any age, any fitness level. FitCity coaches take pride in focusing on your current fitness level/abilities and making them better. We scale load and intensity, we do not change programs. You won’t have to lift weights beyond your level or perform movements beyond your skill set.

I heard about someone who got hurt doing Crossfit. Is Crossfit dangerous?

“Crossfit is NOT dangerous. Bad coaching is dangerous, poor movement is dangerous. Ego is dangerous. Crossfit, properly scaled to the individual is the safest and most efficient program available for strength, conditioning and movement.” Founder of Crossfit, Greg Glassman. What is most dangerous is not being prepared for what life throws at you!  There is an inherant danger in any physical activity. However with Crossfit, there is a universal scalability (modification) that can be applied to any exercise written in a WOD. FitCity certified coaches are here to help guide you through the workouts safely and efficiently to obtain the desired result.

I would love for my kids to do Crossfit while I am working out. Do you have a kids class?

Yes! FitCity Kids classes are every Monday and Wednesday at 4:30pm and Saturdays at 10:15am. Kids love these “workouts” because they feel so much like play! FitCity Kids helps build your child’s self esteem through physical and mental challenges that he/she can achieve and feel successful. Furthermore, the program and coach, encourages teamwork and comraderie amongst all of the kids in the class. “High fives” and “great jobs” can be seen and heard throughout the 30 minute class!

Are the WODs performed in groups?

Yes, the WODs are performed at a pre-determine class time throughout each day. Click schedule to see our up to date times and classes. Each group training class offered on a particular day is done in a group setting. So, if you miss a morning class, you can pick up the afternoon/evening class without missing a thing! FitCity group training classes are scalable according to the needs, strengths, and weakness of each athlete. Additionally, many elements of the workouts can be customized to suit the specific fitness goals of each member.  Think of it as group, personal training.

I prefer one on one with a coach. Do you offer Personal Training?

Yes! We do offer Personal Training to anyone looking for one on one, two on one(bring a friend, share the cost!), or small group with a Crossfit coach. Whether you are looking for personalized attention with technique and skill work, individualized nutritional support or goal specific workouts custom tailored to your goals, personal training sessions are available to meet your needs. We offer sessions that can be purchased individually, or in a 5 or 10 pack at a discounted price.

I am a senior citizen. Am I too old for Crossfit?

No! One of the most amazing things about Crossfit is the universal scalability. This means that all ages from Preschoolers to Senior Citizens, and everyone in between, can do a Crossfit workout. We can tailor any movement we ask our members to do to meet your current level of fitness. Every new member will talk to the Head Coach about your health history, current body issues, and your short and long term goals so that FitCity can help you reach them.

I am most comfortable working out with women. Do you have classes just for women?

Yes! We offer Women Only classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8am. We have found that some women feel more comfortable and have benefited greatly by being in a all women class. Some women choose this class because it works best in their schedule. Either way, this is NOT a watered down version of Crossfit. The programming for this class is the same that is employed in the co-ed classes, and can be modified or scaled to any athlete’s ability.

I keep hearing/reading WOD. What does that mean?

WOD stands for “workout of the day”.

Do you have an area for my child(ren) to wait while I work out?

Yes, we have a kid room blocked off from the main area for your children to play while you workout. Please note, this room is PEANUT FREE and NUT FREE for the safety of children with allergies. When you arrive, please be sure to sign in your child(ren) on the sign out sheet posted by the door.  Your child may bring (and is encouraged to bring) toys to play with in the kid room. We have children ourselves so we know how valuable a seperate area for your children can be. Please remember you are responsible for keeping an eye on your children at all times. The FitCity coaches are focused on technique and safety of the members and the workout space during class times and can not be responsible for what is happening in the kid room.

Are you sure Crossfit is for me?

Yes! Crossfit is for you because Crossfit is for ANYONE! Old and young, fit and not fit. Crossfit is infinitely scaleable to any person’s needs. It can be adjusted to your current fitness level as well as modified to help you reach a particular goal. Our target population is not specific to age, gender, fitness level or abilities. Instead, we are welcoming to anyone who is willing to work hard and keep an open mind to Crossfit principles. The only thing you will regret is that you didn’t start sooner!
